The trek
Harvest at dawn.

For three weeks each autumn, the plateaus around Taliouine turn violet: Crocus sativus blooms at first light and must be picked before mid-morning. This trek is timed to that window. You harvest with the growers of the world's saffron capital at dawn, learn sorting and drying with a certified cooperative, then walk into the mountain the fields depend on: Jebel Sirwa, the 3,305 m volcano standing alone between the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas.
8 to 14 participants. Four days on foot through terraced villages, pise granaries and high shepherd country to the summit, with mule support throughout. Nights split between a Taliouine auberge, village gites and one high camp. A Marrakech riad and full recovery close the week. October to November only, when the saffron blooms.

Dawn saffron harvest
Pick Crocus sativus with Taliouine growers in the half-light before the flowers close. 150,000 flowers make one kilogramme; you will understand the price of saffron by breakfast.
The cooperative
Sorting, drying, grading: a working session with a certified saffron cooperative, and a tasting that runs from tea to tagine. Buy at source, from the families who grew it.
Sirwa summit, 3,305 m
The lone volcano between the two Atlas ranges. A final ridge with easy scrambling, then a panorama that runs from Toubkal across the Anti-Atlas and, on clear days, to the first desert haze.
Villages of the Sirwa
Terraced fields, pise granaries and saffron-farming villages like Atougha on the mountain's flank. The gites are family-run; dinner is what the terraces grew.
High shepherd country
Above the villages, the azib shelters of the Sirwa shepherds and grazing plateaus at 2,500 m. One night of high camp under Anti-Atlas stars.
Marrakech recovery
Hammam ceremony, deep tissue massage and a saffron-threaded farewell dinner back in the riad.

Arrival Marrakech
Private transfer from Marrakech Menara to the riad. Welcome dinner and trek briefing.
To the saffron capital
Private transfer via Taroudant to Taliouine (4.5 hours). Cooperative visit: sorting, drying, tasting. Auberge night.
Harvest, then walk
Dawn harvest in the fields with the growers. Late morning: first trek stage into the foothill villages. Gite night.
Terraces and granaries
Trek through Atougha and the terraced flank of the Sirwa. Pise granaries, saffron terraces, walnut trees. Gite night.
High camp
Climb into shepherd country: azib shelters and grazing plateaus at 2,500 m. High camp below the summit ridge.
Summit day, 3,305 m
Pre-dawn start, easy scrambling on the final ridge, summit panorama from Toubkal to the Anti-Atlas. Descend to the roadhead; transfer to Taliouine.
Return to Marrakech
Morning transfer back to Marrakech. Hammam, deep tissue massage, farewell dinner in the riad.
Departure
Breakfast and transfer to Marrakech Menara or Agadir Al Massira.

Getting there
How to arrive.
Fly into Marrakech Menara (RAK) or Agadir Al Massira (AGA). Day 2 is a private transfer to Taliouine, around 4.5 hours via Taroudant and the Souss valley, included.
Trekking days run 4 to 6 hours; summit day is longer, with some easy scrambling on the final ridge. The trek is moderate: any hiker comfortable with consecutive mountain days can complete it.
