Film and audiovisual production in Morocco
A film shoot in Morocco,
with one local partner from scouting to wrap.
Locations, casting, permits, crew, directors, drone operators, introductions and logistics. We run the ground, so your team works with one counterpart and the permit goes through a producer certified by the Moroccan Cinema Centre.
Morocco hosted 48 foreign film and television productions in 2025, according to the Moroccan Cinema Centre. Behind this service, more than twenty years of experience on the ground.
What Morocco asks of a foreign production
Three facts decide how a shoot starts. They come from the Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM), the official point of contact for international productions.
A shooting permit
The CCM issues it. It confirms that the project meets the legal, administrative and security requirements of the Kingdom. Nothing is shot without it.
A certified Moroccan partner
The CCM guide asks foreign producers to work with a Moroccan company certified by the CCM, under the international certification in force since 1 September 2026. That partner is your single point of contact with the authorities. Our certified partner holds the permit and the production contract, and we run the ground alongside it.
A 30% cash rebate, for eligible works
The CCM reimburses 30% of eligible expenses incurred in Morocco for feature films, TV movies, series, documentaries and fiction made for the internet. Advertising, music videos, short films and reality TV are not eligible. Conditions apply, including a minimum shooting time and local spend.
What we run on the ground
From the first recce to the last day. You tell us what the script needs, we find it and organise it.
Location scouting and finding
Recce packs and tech scouts across deserts, mountains, coasts, medinas and kasbahs, with access, owners and constraints checked before your team travels.
Permits and authorisations
Files prepared with the certified partner for the CCM and the authorities concerned, sensitive sites included. Timing depends on the sites, and we say so early.
Casting and extras
Moroccan and international actors, speaking parts, crowds and extras, in Arabic, Amazigh, French and English, on contracts that follow local rules.
Crew and recruitment
Department heads, local crew, assistants, interpreters, drivers and runners, recruited for your shoot and confirmed by your own heads of department.
Directors and drone operators
Introductions to Moroccan directors and directors of photography who hold their professional cards, and to licensed drone operators. A drone is always cleared before it flies.
Logistics and welfare
Transport to remote sites, accommodation, catering, security and medical cover for crews of any size, in the desert, the Atlas and on the coast.
Introductions
Equipment houses, post facilities, Moroccan producers, studios and talent agents, reached through one conversation.
Every item can be taken on its own. Most productions start with locations and the permit file.
How a production runs with us
Six steps, in this order. The first conversation commits you to nothing.
1. Brief
Script breakdown, dates, the look you want and the shape of the budget.
2. Scout
A recce proposal, then the recce, with photographs and access notes.
3. Permit
The file, the authorisations and, if the work is eligible, the rebate application, all before shooting.
4. Prep
Casting, crew, transport, accommodation and call sheets.
5. Shoot
One counterpart on set and in the office, every day.
6. Wrap
Closing accounts and the supporting file for the rebate.
Where you can shoot
The CCM calls Morocco an open air studio: deserts, mountains, beaches, valleys, forests, two coastlines, medinas, palaces and villages, within a few hours of each other. Ouarzazate has hosted international productions for decades, and Morocco has seen Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Black Hawk Down, and Indian films such as Agent Vinod and Jagga Jasoos. Marrakech, the Agafay desert, Erg Chigaga, the Atlas, Essaouira, Taghazout, Dakhla, Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Fez and Chefchaouen complete the map.
Who we work with
Productions of every origin, from a unit of ten to a unit of several hundred.
Studios, streamers and broadcasters
Hollywood and international studios, streaming platforms and broadcasters shooting a feature, a series or a documentary.
Indian and Bollywood productions
Hindi and regional Indian productions, with scouting and logistics built around large units and long days.
Commercials, fashion and editorial
Shoots that are not eligible for the rebate but need the same permits and the same speed, in light and landscape that are hard to find elsewhere.
How we work, written down
No amount is published here, because no two productions share a size or a schedule.
One counterpart
One person answers for the whole ground, in English, French or Arabic.
Budgets per production
Each production is budgeted line by line. Costs are shown as they are incurred, and a service fee is agreed in advance.
Confidentiality
A non disclosure agreement before your script breakdown, if you want one.
No promised permits
The CCM decides. We prepare the file well and tell you early what is likely to take time.
Filming in Morocco: the questions productions ask
- Does a foreign production need a Moroccan company?
- In practice, yes. The Moroccan Cinema Centre guide says to work with a Moroccan company certified by the CCM, under the international certification in force since 1 September 2026. That company is your official local partner and your single point of contact with the authorities. It holds the permit and the production contract, and we run the ground alongside it.
- Who issues the shooting permit?
- The Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM). The permit confirms that the project meets the legal, administrative and security requirements of the Kingdom.
- Is there a cash rebate for filming in Morocco?
- Yes: 30% of eligible expenses incurred in Morocco, for feature films, TV movies, series, documentaries and fiction made for the internet. Advertising, music videos, short films, reality TV and corporate films are not eligible. The application is made before shooting, and a minimum shooting time and local spend apply. The CCM publishes the current terms.
- Can we fly drones in Morocco?
- Drones are tightly controlled: bringing one in and flying it both need authorisation, and each use is cleared. Plan it in the permit file from the start, and never bring a drone into the country without clearance. We work with licensed operators.
- How long does a permit take?
- It depends on the locations. A simple urban shoot is quicker than a desert, a border area or a sensitive site. We tell you early, and we recommend starting the file as soon as you have your location list.
- Can you find locations before we send a team?
- Yes. We prepare a recce pack with photographs, access notes and constraints, then organise the tech recce when your team arrives.
- Do you handle casting and extras?
- Yes, from speaking parts to crowds, in Arabic, Amazigh, French and English.
- Does Umnya produce the film?
- No. The production contract and the shooting permit go through a Moroccan production company certified by the CCM, and we run the ground alongside it. Your film stays yours.
- Do you work with Indian productions?
- Yes. Indian and international units of any size, with scouting and logistics built around long days and large crews, in English.
- What does it cost?
- No amount is published. Each production is budgeted line by line, costs are shown as they are incurred, and a service fee is agreed in advance.
