Retreat · Marrakech · Atlas · Sahara
Morocco has the finest natural light on earth. Eight days to learn to use it.

The retreat
Morocco does not need
a filter.
The medina of Marrakech, the kasbahs of the Atlas foothills, the face of a nomad in the Sahara light - these are not subjects that need enhancement. They need patience, the right angle, and a guide who knows when the light changes. This retreat takes photographers from the souks of Marrakech through Atlas mountain villages to the dunes of Erg Chigaga, with a daily workshop component in every location.
Three nights in Marrakech, two nights in the Atlas, three nights in the Sahara. All levels welcome: smartphone photographers, film enthusiasts, and digital SLR users. Morning yoga and an evening hammam give the body time to process what the eyes have taken in. Pottery and a cooking class provide a different kind of creative engagement.

The experience
What awaits you
Photography workshop
Daily guided workshop in each location: Marrakech medina composition, Atlas landscape technique, Sahara golden hour and portrait sessions. All levels and all formats.
Landscape shooting
Sunrise and sunset shooting sessions in the Atlas and Sahara. The golden hour light of Erg Chigaga is available nowhere else in North Africa.
Medina portrait sessions
Guided portrait sessions in Marrakech's souks with community consent. The faces, hands and textiles of the medina artisans.
Morning yoga
Daily sunrise yoga to open the eyes and the body before the day's shooting begins. Stillness before motion.
Pottery workshop
Half a day with a Marrakech master potter. The texture and colour of Moroccan clay as a photographic subject - and as a creative practice in itself.
Moroccan cooking class and hammam
A private cooking class with a local chef and an evening hammam. Two traditions that engage the senses photography cannot reach.
