Souss Valley, Morocco
Taroudant.
Run the ancient city. Trail the Anti-Atlas. Recover like a nomad.
The grandmother of Marrakech. The runner's canvas.
Taroudant sits in the broad Souss valley between the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges, 80 kilometres east of the Atlantic. An ancient walled city of red-ochre ramparts, orange groves, and souks untouched by mass tourism. The air is dry, the light is extraordinary, and the terrain around the city as varied as any runner could wish.
The 7.5 kilometres of intact city walls offer a flat dawn circuit unlike anywhere else in Africa. The orchards and argan groves of the Souss plain stretch in every direction. And the Anti-Atlas foothills, forty minutes away, deliver technical trail running with views from the Toubkal massif to the Atlantic.
8 to 14 runners. Mornings out on the terrain. Afternoons in recovery, hammam, argan oil, altitude. Evenings at the long table. Eight days where the running is extraordinary and the city around it even more so.
